Christie has been involved in the fitness industry for over 17 years, beginning with her Group Fitness Certification and teaching live classes at several local fitness centers. After years of loving the class environment, she decided to move further and acquire her Personal Training Certification. Christie continues to stay current by continuing her fitness education including Strong by Zumba, SCW Yoga I, Zumba, Jillian Michaels BODYSHRED, Barre Above, and TRX Suspension Training to name a few. Christie partnered with Kim Slusser in January of 2011 to bring Core Fitness, the areas only "boutique" fitness center for women, to Greater Hazleton. With Christie's vast knowledge of fitness she ensures that our club's exercise programming stays fresh and dynamic!
Kim's background in Education has guided her path in educating women of the Hazleton area. She was a Leader for La Leche League International where she volunteered several years instructing local women in the art of Breastfeeding their infants. Her interests in fitness, sharing information, and helping women achieve their goals led her to partner with her Personal Trainer, Christie Smith to bring a full service women only gym to Hazleton! Kim recently completed her Female Fitness Instructor Certification to better implement her knowledge and skills and to share accurate fitness information with our members and guests. Kim is also an AFAA Certified Group Fitness Instructor, G.E.A.R. Indoor Cycle Instructor, Jillian Michaels BODYSHRED Instructor, Golden Hearts Senior Fitness Instructor and Is working on her Senior Fitness Personal Training Certification.
Sherri started her fitness career under Core Fitness Trainer Christie Smith. She began as a member of our Core Team in September of 2011, when she was a desk attendant. Working in the gym environment, Sherri developed a passion for fitness and an interest in teaching. "I like being around people and seeing results in my students! I want to keep it fun and challenging!" Sherri and her husband, Ron, welcomed a son in 2016 and she has since returned post-baby to serve as a great role model to new mothers. Sherri is currently working on her Primary Group Exercise Certification with AFAA. She instructs Power Barz and Circuit.
Kayla loves to motivate and inspire and wants to help others reach their fitness goals. She began as a dedicated student in Steph's HIIT Bootcamp and quickly realized her passion for fitness had grown. She is excited about the next part of her fitness journey as she works on her SCW Group Exercise Certification. Kayla is a Certified Dental Assistant at Della Croce Dental Care in Freeland.
Stephanie is a AFAA Certified Group Fitness Instructor working towards her certification in Personal Training through the American College of Sports Medicine. Steph's background as an athlete and her own personal fitness goals propelled her to be a fitness instructor. She is passionate about fitness and encouraging others to realize the full potential of their body. Her motto: "Dare to be in the best shape of your life!"
Nichole was a member member of Core Fitness before transitioning to a fitness instructor in November of 2015. Nichole teaches a variety of classes including a Power Barz Class, Total Body Circuit and Indoor Cycle. Her passion for fitness and ability to motivate her students is evident in the energy of her classes! Nichole is a Registered Nurse and has worked for Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown, PA. She strives for health and fitness and has personally lost over 100 pounds thanks to bariatric surgery and dedication to exercise. Nikki is also the sister of co-owner Christie Smith.
Jennifer began as a member of Core Fitness in January 2016. Soon after joining Core, It quickly became one of her favorite places to be. "The women who participate here are so inspiring and make you feel like part of a family". Jennifer holds a bachelor's degree in Elementary and Special Education and a M.Ed. in Reading. "For me, with my interest in physically improving myself and others as well as my educational background, teaching classes was a great transition and opportunity". Jennifer is a Metabolic Boost instructor at Core Fitness and a regular sub on the fitness schedule. She also enjoys running outdoors in her free time.
My passion is yoga, strength, and cardio training. My love of health, nutrition, and fitness has led me down many paths of fitness programs. However, four years ago I began doing power vinyasa yoga, which became the focal point of my fitness regimen. Yoga then became my passion and I decided to complete a 200 hour teacher training through Twin-Cities-Yoga which I completed in 2014. In addition to being a 200 hour registered yoga teacher, I am also certified as a PIYO instructor. PIYO is formatted on the principles of yoga and pilates, while bringing in the components of dance, calisthenics, cardio and strength training, PIYO was a program that brought my fitness passions together. I am excited to bring my energy and love of fitness to Core Fitness!
Carolyn became an indoor cycling enthusiast October 2014. Looking to improve her own fitness lifestyle, she took up indoor cycling. It came naturally and she fell in love. She knew she wantd to teach and motivate others to enjoy cycling as well. August 2015, Carolyn became certified by Madd Dog Athletics. As she continues her fitness journey, Carolyn has also received her diploma in personal nutrition through the Shaw Academy in Spring of 2016. Caroyln uses her knowledge and certifications to teach indoor cycle class as well as a successful 8-week Cycle and Strength Workshop here at Core Fitness.
